Help with an assignement? I need some New York ‘experts’ ;)?
For a school assignment we have to do a travel challenge.
You have $5000 to go somewhere and back.
I chose New York.
I already booked my plane&hotel etc (it was like $2114.64)
and I have some places picked out to go (all togther $114 w/o taxes)
I need to eat 3 meals everyday. I will be gone 7 days.
Please suggest some cheap places to eat. I need to find a NewYork restaurant with an online website that shows their menu AND prices !
Also could you suggest anymore attractions or things to do?
I am going to:
Empire State Building
- Adults pay $20.
New York Bus Night Tour
- Web special: $39
Central Park Zoo
- $8 for adults
Central Park
- Free to walk around?
Metropolitan Museum of Art
- $20 for adults
Times Square Neighbourhood
-Free (Is this correct??)
PS: Im not really going to new york lol. I wish!
There are many fast food places in the city, like McDonalds, Burger King, hot dog stands, etc. You can visit the wax museum, china town
How much of New York City can I see in 2 days (see details)?
A friend from Japan is coming to visit me and I’m considering taking her to New York City, but I was only there once for a very brief amount of time, so this is as much of a trip for me as it will be for her!
Anyways, her only requests were:
-Statue of Liberty
-Museum of Natural History
First of all, about how long should I budget to see these two sites?
Next, I was considering the following as possible additions:
-Ground Zero (just see it, take pictures, and move on. Is it a quick/easy walk from the Staten Island Ferry?)
-Metropolitan Museum of Art
-Times Square (just walking a little to see the famous crossing)
-United Nations buidling
-Walk around Central Park
-Perhaps the other Ellis Island sites (I almost forgot about those…)
Feel free to recommend other things if you know of some worthwhile places.
Anyways, how plausible would it be to see those things in just 2 days? What would you recommend as an itinerary with those in mind. If it’s not possible to see those sites in 2 days, feel free to pick and choose what seems most reasonable to you!
Thanks so much for any help!

Best Pizza, Donut and hotdogs in New York city?
I’m traveling to NEWYORK city (Wall Street,NYSE, Ground Zero , Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum* Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Statue of Liberty.)
Anyone know the name and location, perhaps price of the best or favorite:
1.New york style pizza
2.New york style Hot dog
3.New york style Donuts
That is not too far from the central action of NY city? I don’t mind street vendors, as long as the food is unique to NewYork and exemplifies the taste of New york!
Pizza: try Joe’s Pizza. It is located in Greenwich Village, a great neighborhood to explore as a tourist. You’ll find it on Bleecker Street near 6th Avenue. Beware of impostors — there’s plenty of BAD pizza in NYC too! Joe’s is pizza by the slice. If you want to sit down and eat your pizza at a table, try John’s of Bleecker, just down the street at 278 Bleecker, or Totonno’s (2 locations: 2nd avenue at 26th street or 2nd avenue at 80th street), or Patsy’s (multiple locations). Enjoy!
Donut: I don’t know if there IS a New York style of donut. I’ve never heard of it. But donuts have been kind of trendy lately and there are lots of places to get unique, gourmet donuts. There’s a pretty thorough round-up here: http://newyork.seriouseats.com/2008/10/guide-to-the-best-doughnuts-donuts-in-new-york-city-nyc.html
Hot Dog: I’m not a big hot dog eater, so I’ll leave this to someone else. But it is a fun excursion to go to Coney Island (very far out in Brooklyn, it is a boardwalk and old-school amusement park on the ocean) and check out Nathan’s, which is a classic NY hot dog.
Mormons, Is the book of Abraham really Egyptian funerary documents?
The LDS claim the ancient papyri that Joseph Smith supposedly translated from Egyptian language to create the book of Abraham was burned in a fire when, later in 1967 these same papyri had been found in the New York Metropolitan Museum. (Some, even with notes in Joseph Smith’s own handwriting on the back of them!) In 1967 this same museum donated these papyri to the Mormon Church, and the Church agrees these are the same papyri Joseph used to produce the Book of Abraham. Soon after the Church began its own translation of the papyri, as did at least 4 other well known Egyptologists not associated with the Church. When the Egyptologists finished, all their translations resulted in basically the same translation, which concluded that the book of Abraham had absolutely nothing to do with the papyri! In fact, the papyri did not even mention Abraham’s name! Instead, the papyri turned out to be common Egyptian funerary documents known as "The Book of the Dead" and "The Book of Breathings"
I have an idea..
1. Get the Book of Abraham..
2. Read it yourself so you can be sure what it says for yourself..
3.Pray to God in the Name of Jesus Christ in sincerity for Guidance /answers to whatever questions..
4. Listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit..
By this means ye may know the truth of all things..or in other words go to the source instead of silly Ideologys and fruitless contests of opinions which get no where.
What American museums hold significant Renaissance collections?
I’m aware of the Getty Museum in LA, the National Gallery of Art in DC, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Any others?
Philadelphia, Penn.
The Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts
Vacation in New York?
I am planning a vacation to New York and Boston. I’ll be in NY for 3/4 days and have a list of what id like to do. With my list, i’d like someone familiar with the area to tell what is close to what so i dont have to be traveling cross town for the different things i want to do. I want to do everything that is close in the same day. Here is my list.
NEW YORK
1.Statue of Liberty
2.Empire state….. 350 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10118-0100
3.Central park…… 14 E 60th St New York, NY 10022-1002
a. Woolman rink….. 63rd Street, New York, NY 11204
4.Times square……. 43rd Street and 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10036

Also if anyone has any other suggestions im open to them and with my list included, where shall i look for a hotel that is central to all of these locations?

Family of four (two teenagers) with 7 days to vacation in New York…What would you do?
Okay….some background here. We will be going to The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, The Metropolitan Museum of Arts, The Cloisters, MoMA, St. Patricks Cathedral, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, The American Museum of Natural History and The Empire State Building. We will try (cost permitting) to make a Broadway musical and a Yankees or Mets game. We are not into clothes shopping. I want to go to Zabar’s and everyone wants to go to Greenwich Village. Please don’t suggest Tavern on the Green or Delmonico’s as I cannot take out a second mortgage for the sake of a five star chef.
Leno and Letterman are both taped in NYC. Get there early because very long lines will form. You’re not missing much with Tavern on the Green, I’ve always been disappointed in their food, no matter how many stars they claim.
In Chinatown check out Wo Hop for a meal. They are on Mott Street, use the downstairs dining room.
South Street Seaport. Inexpensive shopping and lots of food places.
The United Nations. Sit in a meeting and wander for free or take a tour. Gift shop is great for souvenirs. FAO Schwartz toy store also has an ice cream parlor (sorry to be a bad influence)
Get out of Manhattan; if you are going to a Mets game, get to Queens early and see the Bowne House in Flushing (stop on the underground railroad) with good restaurants a couple blocks away; or go to the Flushing Hall of Science and the adjoining zoo, where you can walk at tree top level to see the birds.
Brooklyn: the Aquarium and Coney Island.
